Lihue Airport (code LIH) is the primary airport on the Island of Kauai. Flying direct into Kauai is the most convenient and affordable way to reach the Garden Island from mainland USA and Canada. Direct flights to Kauai are available from the following cities:

If you are flying internationally or cannot find a direct flight from your departing city, a short hop from Maui or Honolulu International Airport is made possible by Hawaiian Airlines. Frequent and short inter-island flights between the outer islands and Lihue, Kauai are available all year round.



Grand Hyatt Kauai is about 15 miles from Lihue airport. Depending on the traffic, transport from the airport should take approximately thirty minutes. IHE will arrange for bus and minivan transportation services between the venue and the airport for a small fee. Delegates will have the opportunity to arrange for transportation through IHE prior to their arrival and departure. 



The Grand Hyatt Kauai offers heavily discounted room rates to conference delegates who register for the meeting and accommodations package through the official HEP DART conference website. By registering for this package, a nightly resort fee of US$ 35 is also waived for all HEP DART delegates. Room options include:

Option 2:

  • Partial Ocean-View Room, Nightly rate: $259.00 + tax

  • Discounted rate available from Saturday December 7 until Friday December 13, 2019.

  • Due to high demand, Partial Ocean-View Rooms will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Option 3:

  • Deluxe Ocean-View Room, Nightly rate: $379.00 + tax

  • Discounted rate available from Saturday December 7 until Friday December 13, 2019.

  • Due to high demand, Deluxe Ocean-View Room will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Extensions prior to or past these dates are subject to room and rate availability. Room type requests cannot be guaranteed and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The rates listed are for single or double occupancy. For additional persons 19 years and older, a $40.00 charge per night is applied. There are a maximum four (4) adults or two (2) adults and two (2) children per room. Please note that gratuities are at your discretion and current state and local taxes are set at 14.96%. Such taxes are subject to change without notice. Group rates will be in effect from December 6 until December 13, 2019. We will be happy to accommodate an extended stay prior or past these dates, subject to room and rate availability.

The Grand Hyatt Kauai, site of HEP DART 2019, is an accessible site, as defined by section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The online conference registration questionnaire provides an opportunity for participants with disabilities to voluntarily identify any special needs, and any noted needs are accommodated on-site. Venues for HEP DART meetings are selected for their family-friendly nature and offer services such as daycare/babysitting to enable persons with family caregiver responsibilities to attend the conference. 




IHE is pleased to provide scholarships to women, minorities, under-represented delegates, and young investigators (below the age of 35). Scholarships may cover cost of registration, accommodations or travel, and are limited to applicants with accepted abstracts. Important: Oral abstract presenters must show chemical structures of all compounds presented during the talk. If you do not want to show chemical structures, please let us know and we will accommodate your abstract for a poster presentation.

In order to deliver an engaging and effective presentation, please follow the guidelines below:

  • Please respect the time limit of your presentation 

  • Include concise introduction and background information

  • Summarize your talk by providing a summary slide at the end of your presentation

  • Include a conflict of interest slide

  • Include bibliography and sources on slides

For slide design, we suggest that you:

  • Do not use more than one minute per slide

  • Use one slide to convey one idea

  • Do not make your slides over-crowded (no more than 20 words per slide)

  • Use clear visuals instead of text when possible

  • Use bullet points instead of full sentences

  • Use large font (minimum of 18 pts)

  • Use contrasting colors that are clearly visible
